Each Miinus kitchen has been built on ecological values. Indoor air and carbon footprint calculations guided us to identify natural, clean choices for each material used. However, pure materials alone are not enough to guarantee a pure product if the manufacturing methods do not live up to the same high standards. Miinus kitchens are manufactured at Puustelli’s production facilities, where ecological values have governed our manufacturing methods for many years.

Each Miinus product was chosen ecologically right across the range. 

Additionally, no indoor volatile organic compound emissions that could prove harmful to health are present in a Miinus Kitchen.

Simply put, a Miinus kitchen is a completely safe environment to work in and purchasing one truly is an ecological choice.

Miinus door structures differ from ordinary board structures. When considering the ecological values of door structures, we quickly identified that utilising a honeycomb substrate had many advantages.

A honeycomb-core door is lighter, it does not exert excess stress on cabinet hinges or other mechanisms and it helped prevent bowing issues long associated with tall doors in particular.

Our honey-comb core veneer door selections have solid wood frames and are enveloped in a variety of beautiful, real wood surfaces.

The surfaces are treated with water-soluble substances or natural oil and glues used in assembly contain no added formaldehyde.

Using a honey-comb core for our doors means they are lighter in weight and consequently lessen fuel consumption during transportation.  Our Solid Wood doors, although not as light, retain ecological values of the Miinus range in that they are sourced from highly sustainable Finnish forestry.

Doors with a solid wood frame enable glass to be used also in the sides of carcase structures. The woods used in Miinus are birch, pine, oak and special veneers, which are made from fast-growing, cultivated renewable species such as poplar. Each species of wood has been sourced from PEFC and FSC forests, which are well managed and where regrowth is assured.

Biocomposite carcases

At the development stage of the Miinus kitchen and as our research progressed, we found we needed to change the carcase material. However, there were no alternatives available to the existing traditional materials used. Much research and numerous tests were required to help find a solution. Several years of development finally bore fruit. Biocomposite was chosen as the carcase material and resulted in the pioneering Miinus carcase, the side frames of which are made by injection moulding. Biocomposite is an ecological and completely recyclable material, the greatest advantages of which are its lightness, durability, modifiability and purity. Lightness makes it easier to move, install and enable reduced transport emissions. The material’s durability embraces indefatigability, which allows a product to be moved, installed and dismantled time and again.

Other advantages not found in ordinary carcase materials include water-resistance and an ability to withstand hot and cold temperatures.

Clean indoor air is important for each and every one of us. Biocomposite is a safe material since it contains 0% formaldehyde, which is harmful to health.

Modifiable Miinus frame

Besides being ecological, the Miinus carcase is also modifiable, unlike any other. Since biocomposite is not subject to fatigue, the same carcase can later be modified for use without needing to replace the carcase itself. The durable biocomposite frame comes with readymade attachment points for each Miinus mechanism. Base cabinets can swap places with drawers or vice versa. A wall cabinet can be instantly transformed into a dish drying cabinet, display cabinet or open shelf. All the components, panels and doors in a Miinus carcase can be easily removed and replaced. If you wish to highlight the beautiful tiled wall of your kitchen, you can do so by not installing the backboard of the Miinus carcase. A PCT patent has also been sought for the biocomposite frame.

Worktops in Miinus range comprise of wood and ceramic. Both are re-useable and recyclable ecologically sustainable products.

Miinus solid wood worktops come in thicknesses of 30 mm and 38 mm and the surfaces are treated with gentle natural oil. The solid woodworktop can also be stained. The glues we use in manufacturing our worktops are free from formaldehyde. We can make a moulded edge for the solid wood worktop if you require. This allows a harmonious moulded edge if you wish to place a ceramic worktop and a solid wood worktop side by side. Our clean manufacturing process ensures a pure product, which has the top indoor air rating M1.

The ceramic worktop is 12 mm thick, but is of very durable material that can withstand high temperatures and does not easily scratch. The sintered mineral-based material is also ideal for shelves or back panels for an intermediate space. The material is re-usable and recyclable and has the top indoor air rating M1.


Oil brings out the richness of the wood colour and grain pattern and provides excellent protection against dirt and moisture. Oil treatment can be renewed as required using either a brush or a lint-free cloth.
